Inspiring the Next Generation: Yumna Brings the Stars to Pakistan’s Future Scientists

Meet Yumna Majeed: A Trailblazer for Space Education in Pakistan

Yumna’s journey began with a fascination for space and a childhood dream of becoming an astronaut. Growing up in Lahore, Pakistan, she faced societal challenges, particularly as a woman pursuing an unconventional path in space science. Yet, her passion for exploring the cosmos and inspiring others led her to start Exploration by Yumna, a program aimed at making space education accessible to children, even though it faced skepticism from school administrators, Yumna persisted, bringing space education to both urban and remote areas of Pakistan.

Driven by a deep commitment to inclusivity, Yumna travels from city centers to isolated regions, introducing young girls and boys to the wonders of astronomy through hands-on workshops, day and night sky observations, exhibitions of space rocks, STEM lectures, space art, and storytelling. Yumna also connects students with astronauts through live online sessions, providing rare opportunities to engage with space experts. Her goal is to empower these children to dream big, helping them realize that their future is not limited by their surroundings but expanded by the universe above them. Despite the obstacles, Yumna’s dedication and vision continue to impact hundreds of thousands of young lives, bringing the stars closer to those who might have never thought to look up.

"As a schoolgirl I was told Space was not an option for me. So I decided to create it." - Yumna Majeed

Yumna's Challenges

Yumna faces many challenges in her mission to bring space education to children in Pakistan, where there’s no astronaut program, telescopes are rare, and the education system is focused on exams. Traveling to remote areas on her own, she covers her expenses and relies on limited resources to run programs like hands-on workshops, night sky observations, and STEM lectures.

Donations will fund essential equipment, travel costs, and outreach, allowing Yumna to reach more students and inspire a love for astronomy. Your support can make space education accessible to children across Pakistan, regardless of their location or background.

"Following your heart is not always easy, but what was important for me, was the kids." - Yumna Majeed
