New Global Project for STEM Education Using Sunlight

A new Astronomy for Equity initiative will introduce STEM education to students worldwide using sunlight. More than a million new, unused eclipse glasses leftover from the 2024 total solar eclipse in the US have been collected for distribution to unserved and marginalized communities worldwide.

This is just the first step in a broader educational program for schools and outreach groups based on our closest star and its impact on Earth. The glasses will be paired with engaging lesson plans, hands-on activities, and teacher training to create a lasting impact in classrooms and communities.

Curiosity about the universe starts with the simple act of looking up. These eclipse glasses are not just a tool for observing the Sun. They’re a lens through which students can explore science, technology, and their own potential.

This program will target areas lacking science education facilities and resources in isolated areas and developed countries. Through partnerships with local and regional astronomical societies, schools, and nonprofit organizations, these resources will be integrated in vibrant learning experiences.

We invite the community to join us in this effort, whether through donating unused glasses, helping to spread the word, or supporting the initiative with time and resources. Stay tuned for more updates and learn how you can become part of this incredible journey!

Together, we will light up the world with the power of the Sun!
